When studying at the Kingswood School on the campus of the Cranbrook Academy of Art in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, Florence Knoll is protected by Eero Saarinen. She studied architecture at Cranbrook, the Architectural Association in London and Chicago’s Armour Institute. She joined the consulting firm of Walter Gropius, Marcel Breuer and Wallace K. Harrison for a short period. In 1946, she joined Hans Knoll she married and with whom she founds Knoll Associates. She quickly ranked among the leading architects and designers in the world and recognized as an exceptional interior designer. Pioneer of the Knoll Planning Unit, she revolutionized the design of the interior space. His conviction for «total design» that engloble architecture, industry, interior design, textiles and graphics to solve the problems of the domestic habitat, radically upset the conventional practices of the 50s and are now widely used. In 2002, Florence Knoll received from the Foundation for the Arts National Medal of Arts for his contributions to the world of architecture and design.
