White Out is dedicated to winter sports and to design intelligence in relation to the extreme living conditions in the mountains, as well as to the future challenges that will inevitably be posed by the climate change that is currently underway. The exhibition takes its title from the expression “White Out”, the particular optical effect generated at high altitudes when the clouds and the white sky meet the snow-covered landscape, reflecting the light and causing a situation of poor visibility in which the usual refence points, such as distance and direction, are no longer accessible.

Stefano Boeri, President of Triennale Milano, states: “The relationship between design and technology is fundamental for Triennale, an institution that has always dedicated its spaces to creativity, culture and design. We are delighted to be opening our spaces also to sport on this occasion, to coincide with the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics. The exhibition in Triennale springs from the creative ingenuity of Konstantin Grcic and is dedicated to the materials, equipment and sports personalities who have created the history of winter sports, as well as to the future of these disciplines, which have always been linked with innovation. It enables us to tackle sports issues from the point of view of a language that is very close to Triennale's heart: that of creativity and design.”

The exhibition will be staged in the Design Platform space, which, following the extensive architectural and functional redevelopment project carried out on the Palazzo dell'Arte, is located in the large space overlooking the garden on the ground floor, that previously housed the Triennale café.

White Out displays objects, equipment and infrastructure that allow the practice of winter sports and alpine tourism throughout the year, even in the most extreme conditions; it also devotes considerable space to reflections on technology, through the new materials and production processes that improve performance and safety.

The exhibition itinerary is organized in 9 themed sections: Skins, Dainese, Safety, Infrastructure, Bob track, Ski, Extremes, Futures and Material Index. There are about 200 objects on display, designed between 1938 and 2026, including skis and snowboards, masks, gloves, boots, safety equipment, medical prosthetics, equipment for Olympic and Paralympic athletes, furnishings and multimedia productions, extending to the scale of infrastructure and architecture projects designed by important architects and artists, including Charlotte Perriand and Pierre Jeanneret, Carlo Mollino, Philippe Fragnière, Nicolas Ghesquière, Axel Rezab, Jeanne Immink, and Antonio Faullin, to name just a few.
