HOMME PLISSÉ - ISSEY MIYAKE

Image
In this year’s menswear Autumn/Winter showcase, Issey Miyake's 'Homme Plissé' collection revealed a stunning creative session with designer and artist Ronan Bouroullec. Covered with the recognisable strokes of Bouroullec’s drawings, crafted with a Japanese felt-tip brush, the garments were introduced by the models down a runway, but also revealed on the curving walls of the Palais de Tokyo, flattened like textured paintings.

The Palais de Tokyo — this year’s venue for the show — transformed into a canvas for this creative dialogue. Miyake's signature pleats, folding rhythmically onto Bouroullec’s drawings, breathed vitality into the carefully crafted strokes. Titled "Immersed in the Wilds of Creativity”, this collection was described as a project where Miyake’s design team engaged with Ronan’s drawings “not just as a portfolio of work to appreciate as art, but more so as an extensive body of diverse materials to dive into and play freely with”.

Bouroullec’s clear understanding of the brand’s design approach and creative process served as the wellspring of inspiration for this collection. Building on a previous collaboration in 2000, where Bouroullec designed the acclaimed A-POC store for Miyake, it showcases a synergy between Bouroullec and Miyake’s respective artistic visions and design ethos.
